Dianthus ‘Firewitch’

'Firewitch' is an amazingly heat-tolerant Dianthus. Most Pinks simply can't take the heat and humidity of the South and the Midwest, but 'Firewitch' puts on a dazzling performance in late spring and continues until fall! A splendid groundcover, these 8-inch mounds of deep blue foliage and bright magenta blooms are also valuable in rock gardens, along walls, at the front of the border, or as an edging ­ where they give an informal tumbling effect. The leaves disappear beneath the wave of brilliant flowers, which continue sporadically all summer.

Plant 6 to 8 inches apart in a sunny, well-drained location, preferably in a gritty soil of substantial lime content.
