Citrus aurantifolia Mexican Thornless Lime
Citrus trees are a delight for their fragrant blooms, evergreen tropical foliage, and succulent fruit. They're easy to grow in containers and offer year-round beauty indoors in any climate. Mexican Thornless Lime is an improvement upon the species because its upright branches are free from sharp thorns and its fruit is much larger than the species. The tangy-sweet yellow to green fruit ripens in late summer through early winter and is essential for Key Lime Pie, authentic Mojitos, and adding a zesty citrus flavor to salsas and marinades. For areas without the benefit of a frost-free growing season, simply grow this highly ornamental tree in large containers that can be moved indoors to a sunny window for winter. For tropical areas, it makes a beautiful accent tree for foundations and borders. Once it's established, it requires little supplemental watering outdoors. Grows 12 to 15 feet tall and 6 to 8 feet wide. Zones 8-11.
